Banking-Trojan Horse

Trojan Horses in general

A Trojan horse is a well-known type of malware that pretends to be a safe program or file, or hides within one. The aim of this type of malware is to enter users’ computers undetected and record keystrokes, steal passwords, and download further malicious programs.

The Banking Trojan Horse

These Trojans use keyloggers to steal credit card details, passwords, or PINs. Hackers usually pretend to be banks and create fake websites to trick users into entering their personal data and passwords. Most attacks are carried out via email or text message, so you should always be extra cautious when dealing with emails from banks.

Xenormorph

This particular Trojan can only be found on devices that use Android as their operating system. The Trojan specializes in stealing bank details, mimicking the login pages of 56 European banks. The malware hides in harmless apps in the Google Play Store, resulting in more than 50,000 downloads. By manipulating the Android system, the software intercepts PIN codes that are important for online banking users.

Current Risk

There are currently reports of an increase in such attacks, as the developers of the Trojan have made it even more aggressive and sophisticated, which is why particular caution is required when banking online in the near future.
