The new game console is finally on the market, but be careful when buying it. New releases that are very popular often sell out quickly, and people try to get their hands on a copy through indirect channels. This is where the danger lies, because you often encounter fake shops selling exactly that product. How can you recognize a fake shop? You can read more about this on our information page.
The above-mentioned case has occurred frequently, because it is easy to conceal one’s identity on the internet. What might such a case of fraud look like?
Fictitious case: Susi is excited that her new favorite fashion brand is releasing a new T-shirt and she really wants it, but she’s not the only one who’s eager to get their hands on it. That’s why the shirt sells out in a matter of seconds, prompting Susi to continue searching for it online. She finds it on a smaller website where she can order the same shirt that sold out. She emails the retailer, as the website states that orders must be placed by email, buys the shirt, and transfers the amount as an Amazon gift card. She has fallen into the typical trap and been tricked, because to date, no shirt has arrived and the gift card has been redeemed with no chance of getting a refund.
